Christophe Conder, 2026 Carrara Marble on Bronze & Concrete 1900 (H) x 2000 (W) x 900 (D) mm Commissioned by: NSW Memorial Consultative Committee
The teardrop opening offers a glimpse of the baby, positioned as though still nestled within its mother’s womb. The dividing wall represents the forced separation of mother and child.
Though physically divided, the teardrop symbolises the enduring bond between them — a connection that can never be severed. The work acknowledges the profound loss, grief and lifelong impact experienced by mothers, fathers, sons and daughters affected by past forced adoption practices.
Located in the Parramatta North Precinct, NSW, Australia.
